In 2019 Summerburst was again back at Ullevi in Gothenburg and Stadion in Stockholm. This was also the year when Summerburst would arrange the Gothenburg edition of Summerburst in the beginning of the summer as usual, while the Stockholm festival was moved to the end of the summer. This way the Summerburst summer was extended, while the light shows became even more striking thanks to the skies getting dark earlier in the evening. The Gothenburg audience got to continue enjoying the summer light. This year, amongst others, DJ’s like Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Salvatore Ganacci, Will Sparks, Rebecca & Fiona and Otto Knows performed on the big stage and at the Garden Stage you got to see DJ’s like Albin Myers, Ehrling, Steerner, N0SEFIN and Jubël.
One of the main attractions for this year’s edition of Summerburst was the Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris, who would perform in Stockholm to close the 2019 festival. The five-time Grammy nominated producer had earlier released the successful tracks ’One Kiss’ with Dua Lipa, ’Promises’ with Sam Smith, ’This Is What You Came For’ with Rihanna, ’Blame’ with John Newman and Summer.’ In connection with the announcement that Calvin Harris was coming to Summerburst’s Stockholm edition the organizer announced that the artist was one of the most wanted festival bookings ever at Summerburst. The other main attraction that were to perform in Gothenburg was Swedish Alesso who during that year released the tracks ’Time’ and ’Remedy.’ Another big booking for the 2019 festival was the veteran Tiësto, who did his fifth performance at Summerburst. The Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike also performed at Summerburst in 2019. The duo, that later the same year would be titled ’World’s Best DJ’s’ by DJ Mag, always perform their best at festivals and really had the audience in a grip during their both performances in Gothenburg and Stockholm. Another DJ and music producer that performed at the festival in both cities was Swedish Salvatore Ganacci.
The big news in 2019 was that the summer both started and ended with Summerburst. The festival as usual started in Gothenburg, at Ullevi on June 7–8, and then finished at Stadion in Stockholm on August 30–31. That way Summerburst lasted all summer. A big advantage with having one of the festival editions at the end of the summer was that you got to benefit from the late summer darkness for light shows and fireworks. ”It feels really great to present our new setup in which the summer both starts and ends with Summerburst. After what was two amazing festivals at Ullevi in Gothenburg and Stockholm Stadion last summer the idea was born to have a Closing Party. With inspiration from Ibiza we will create the biggest night club in Sweden at Stockholm Stadion at the end of August, thereby extending the summer. With four hours of late summer darkness, we can invest even more in light effects and fireworks,” said the festival management when Summerburst announced the new setup.
Emir Kobilic, which is his given name, had been in the business a few years but now his career had really set off. After having done two gigs at Tomorrowland in 2017 and 2018 that got a lot of attention, to say the least, and after having released tracks with Sebastian Ingrosso, it was finally time for the Summerburst audience to experience the show that Salvatore Ganacci was to deliver. A theme song was chosen for the festival this year as well, an anthem to represent Summerburst 2019. Choice fell on ’Penny’ from DJ’s and producers Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman. The Swedish duo that the same year released ’The King’ with Dzeko and ’Changes’ with Mike Perry and Ten Times, would also perform at the 2019 festival in both cities. Some of the other DJ’s you got to see at Summerburst this summer were Will Sparks, W&W, Rebecca & Fiona, Tigerlily, Alison Wonderland, Jubël, Albin Myers, Otto Know, Purple Dico Machine, Vigiland, Sylvain Armand, Steerner, Ehrling, Mika and Mattn. Together with the amazing audience that created an amazing feeling that made yet another fantastic Summerburst summer.
